Rode today and it was a cold 55 degrees. Had to bundle up. Long sleeve undershirt and all.

God, I've gotten soft since I left the Far East coast. Used to be that wind, rain and an attitude was all I needed to train and race in. Now I need a 15 lb bike, a watt-o-meter, sunny sunshine and a soy latte.

I hate myself.

Finished this painting the other day, finally. It took WAY too long, but it's all good now!

Turned 36 on the 23rd. Yikes- that much closer to 40. I still feel young and my legs are certainly adapting to the laid-off life of training, making art, etc. I'm getting fit and getting more and more power out of my legs with every passing hour of training time- it feels really good!
I'm not kidding myself though. I'm not delusional and think that I tour the NRC or anything, but rather being a thorn in the side of a few racers around here would suit me just fine. It would make up for last year and end things on a good note instead of everything being up in the ether.
After almost a year, all my legal issues are behind me. I've paid who I needed to pay (which bankrupted me, but whatever), have done what I needed to do, and have fought what I needed to fight. I'm surprised at how slow the wheels of "justice" turn, especially when you've got a D.A. that's under the thumb of a rich, money-grubbing woman. 'Law and Order' makes it seem so much faster and so much more exciting than it really is. Court is just an exercise in scheduling and concocted arguments under bad lighting.
Either way- all over- now back to righting the past year.

Tour of Elk Grove officials name new winner following O'Neill positive

Tour of Elk Grove officials named Mike Friedman (Team Slipstream powered by Chipotle) as the new winner of the 2007 edition of the three-stage race in place of Nathan O'Neill, who tested positive for and later admitted use of the appetite suppressant Phentermine at the event.

The Tour of Elk Grove was held August 11-12. Organizers expressed their disappointment publicly in a written statement Wednesday after hearing of O'Neill's positive. His Health Net Pro Cycling Team suspended him after his B sampled confirmed the initial positive test.

"We're obviously disappointed but we will continue to be aggressive about testing and holding our riders to the highest possible standards," said Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson, who also serves as Director of Tour of Elk Grove. O'Neill has returned his US$33,500 prize money (which will be redistributed to other 2007 top winners). He will also be banned for life from racing in the event.

Now here's the funny thing about this positive test, besides the face that O'Neill was on phen-phen (OI! These burritos sure are filling!!)- this prize $$ was already split among his teammates, support crew, etc; or was thrown into an account and split up later along the entire team. That's a lot of dough! But I'm sure his teammates are supporting him as best they know how, rent payments not withstanding, though I don't think they'll be asking him out to the pub anytime soon.

By the way, did anyone really think he ever raced clean before?

This is a newly commissioned painting that I'm working on. It looked like this a couple of days ago. It's about 46" x 60".
It'll change a lot by the time I'm done with my 40oz of coffee today.
