How To Overhaul a Rear Bontrager X Lite Hub.

This process will take you 20 minutes, tops, and your loud Bontrager/Hugi hub will be good as new! You can buy me a beer at a race for this info since you're saving about $30 if you follow these simple steps instead of going to your local bike shop.

1. Give the non drive axle cap a tug and pop it off the axle.

2. This is what it looks like when it pops off.

3. Insert an 8mm allen wrench into the hub and push slowly against the drive side axle cap.

4. The drive side axle cap will push off and the internals will be revealed. Do this slowly as you don't want ratchets and springs flying everywhere.

5. Pull off the drive side by grabbing the cassette, slowly pulling it off the axle.

6. You will see the oversized hollow axle sticking out of the hub body, a silver spring in the cassette body, 2 silver star ratchets and another silver spring inside the hub body. Remember the orientation of the springs: small sides to ratchets.

7. Remove the ratchets and springs, clean and then grease with Hugi grease. If you don't have Hugi grease use the thickest non- teflon grease you have. Take care not to move or damage the rubber seal on the hub body. This is crucial to keeping grit out of your internals

8. Reassemble slowly.

9. Line up the ratchets into their respective splines on both the freehub & hub bodies.

10. Push together and pop the drive side axle cap back into place.

11. Replace non drive axle cap

12. Install your skewer and you're good to go! Quiet and nicely lubed!
